The UK's No.1 end2end challenge

Stuart MacDonald ** John Murphy ** Christopher Murphy

This is our page which records our John o'Groats to Lands End cycle challenge, it started on the 14th June 2014 and lasted 10 days, covering 940 miles. We wanted to have a permanent record of it so we could look back but so others could read it and hopefully be inspired to do it themselves. Part of my knowledge in planning to do this had been taken from others who have written blogs and web pages, it's a vital tool for anyone planning to do these types of challenges.

The UK end2end, whether it be North to South or vice versa is the pinnacle of challenges in UK cycling, it's nearly 1000 miles depending on which way you want to go and you will ascend more than the height of Mount Everest by the time you have finished.

It is for many a lifetime achievement but still way less than 0.1% of the UK population have completed it. We did of course raise money for charity whilst we did this (why wouldn't you?) and selected the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK as two worthy causes. Chris works for Easyjet and we pass on our personal thanks to their charity committee who kindly pledged £250 toward us achieving our challenge. In the end we raised over £3000, which was a good effort, thank you.

I have tried to illustrate the journey we went on from conception through all of the logistical planning and route planning. The Epilogue tells the story of the trip itself.

I can provide the 10 GPX files if anyone would like them of the actual tracked ride, I know when i was planning I couldnt have done the route without the help of others and would have built in significant risk by planning dangerous roads without that advice.

For a copy of the GPX files, email through the contact us page on this site.
